5 Effective Dog Training Essential That Often Overlooked!

Filed under: Other Pets — gregwatson @ 7:34 pm

By Leo Enoch

This article provide 5 simple effective essentials in dog training that often overlooked even by many dog training school or by training professional.

1. Almost all dogs love to play! Incorporate play into the doggy training session, use your dog”s natural excitement is as motivation. This is a really simple yet effective technique and you should really try to include this in your obedience training routine.

If your dog doesn”t enjoy it then he/she will not want to do it in the first place and you will most likely just end up wasting both your time and your dog”s.

2. The trainer needs to enjoy the training session As well!, If you are not in the mood, do not even think of conducting the training session at all. A lot of people or trainer brings their frustration into the training session which could do much more harm then good.

When you are not in the mind to train and your mind is always wondering about problems that you might currently be facing, then move the dog training session to another slot of time

3. Just like human, long and tiring training session will not be effective as it will demotivate them. Keep all these training session short 5-10 minutes. Human alone, the highest being in this planet has hard time when sitting in a training room for more than 1 hour, what”s more with your pet.

So keep the Training Session short but fruitful

4. Dogs do get confused, so keep your command short, clear and consistent.

Example: Not differentiating between “Off” and “Down.” “Off” means get Off something. “Down” means lie down. So next time you tell your dog “down” to get them off the couch and they lie down and look at you, its because they were told to lie down there! They are confused, not misbehaving.

When you want your dog to do something for you, normally you call him “Come” but when he did something wrong and you want to reprimand him, you also called hime “Come”. This is definitely will get your Dog Confused and after giving him the punishment, the next time you asked him to “Come” he will not come because in his mind, it means big trouble.

5. Dogs also need to be rewarded. Reward them if they did well. Then they will remember that command that they followed to get the reward. This will be very effective in training them to obey your command.

Well, that”s the 5 effective dog training essentials that often overlooked or forgotten by the Dogs Trainer which might happen to you when you are Training your Dogs.

Remembering them will definitely improve the quality of your relationship and brings a more meaningful and enjoyable moment for you and your dogs.

The Aristocrat Among Dogs

Filed under: Other Pets — gregwatson @ 7:11 pm

By Joann Cheong

The dogs which take their name from the island of Newfoundland appeal to all lovers of animals. There are now two established varieties, the black and the white and black. There are also bronze-coloured dogs, but they are rare. The black variety of the Newfoundland is essentially black in colour; but this does not mean that there may be no other colour, for most black Newfoundlands have some white marks. In fact, a white marking on the chest is said to be typical of the true breed.

Any white on the head or body would place the dog in the other than black variety. The black colour should preferably be of a dull jet appearance which approximates to brown. In the other than black class, there may be black and tan, bronze, and white and black. The latter predominates, and in this colour, beauty of marking is very important. The head should be black with a white muzzle and blaze, and the body and legs should be white with large patches of black on the saddle and quarters, with possibly other small black spots on the body and legs.

Apart from colour, the varieties should conform to the same standard. The head should be broad and massive, but in no sense heavy in appearance. The muzzle should be short, square, and clean cut, eyes rather wide apart, deep set, dark and small, not showing any haw; ears small, with close side carriage, covered with fine short hair (there should be no fringe to the ears), expression full of intelligence, dignity, and kindness.

The body should be long, square, and massive, loins strong and well filled; chest deep and broad; legs quite straight, somewhat short in proportion to the length of the body, and powerful, with round bone well covered with muscle; feet large, round, and close. The tail should be only long enough to reach just below the hocks, free from kink, and never curled over the back. The quality of the coat is very important; the coat should be very dense, with plenty of undercoat; the outer coat somewhat harsh and quite straight.

The appearance generally should indicate a dog of great strength, and very active for his build and size, moving freely with the body swung loosely between the legs, which gives a slight roll in gait. As regards size, the Newfoundland Club standard gives 140 lbs. to 120 lbs. weight for a dog, and 110 lbs. to 120 lbs. for a bitch, with an average height at the shoulder of 27 inches and 25 inches respectively; but it is doubtful whether dogs in proper condition do conform to both requirements.

When rearing puppies give them soft food, such as well-boiled rice and milk, as soon as they will lap, and, shortly afterwards, scraped lean meat. Newfoundland puppies require plenty of meat to induce proper growth. The puppies should increase in weight at the rate of 3 lbs. a week, and this necessitates plenty of flesh, bone and muscle-forming food, plenty of meat, both raw and cooked.

Milk is also good, but it requires to be strengthened with casein. The secret of growing full-sized dogs with plenty of bone and substance is to get a good start from birth, good feeding, warm, dry quarters, and freedom for the puppies to move about and exercise themselves as they wish. Forced exercise may make them go wrong on their legs. Medicine should not be required except for worms, and the puppies should be physicked for these soon after they are weaned, and again when three or four months old, or before that if they are not thriving. If free from worms, Newfoundland puppies will be found quite hardy, and, under proper conditions of food and quarters, they are easy to rear.

The Different Aspects of Things To Do With Ferrets

Filed under: Other Pets — gregwatson @ 1:38 pm

By Dane Stanton

In you are looking for things to do with ferrets, look no further the information is right at hand. This article is designed for you to learn the different aspects of things to do with ferrets. Whether you are researching the subject to see if you should take on the responsibility of owning one or you presently do own a ferret. By outlining the good and the bad aspects of things to do with ferrets will help in attaining a better level of understanding about the animal itself as well as its behaviors.

The Positive Things To Do With Ferrets

When wondering what to the different things to do with ferrets in the way of pros and cons, there is much to be said. The negative side to owning ferrets is actually pretty low considering how many positive things to do with ferrets there are. They are overall said to be an excellent pet that is an addition to any pet loving home.

The positive things to do with ferrets lie in that they are very gentle animals and are seldom known to bite. One of the most attractive things to do with ferrets is that they are far less apt to biting a child than that of a cat or dog. They require very little space and are quite economical to keep because they do not require an exotic home with lights and other sorts of aquatic affects. Ferrets are very inexpensive compared to a pure pedigree of any species and are only about one to three pounds. They make no noise whatsoever unless in distress and cooperate well. Ferrets are affectionate and available widely available. These are all positive things to do with ferrets especially for an individual that is an apartment dweller or is tightly restricted to space.

The Negative Things To Do With Ferrets

One of the most common heard negative things to do with ferrets is that they have a musky odor and certainly you”ve heard that if you”re looking into ferrets. They are often very smelly if they are not spayed or neutered. However, when they are ”fixed” and have proper hygiene care, they are not as odorous. Ferrets don”t live very long due to the fact that they are easily susceptible to cancer.

Unfortunately this can run up all kinds of veterinary bills for older ferrets. The only thing missing from these negative things to do with ferrets list is that they love to be nosy and get into incredibly tiny holes and areas of the home.

What Can You Feed Your Dog Safely?

Filed under: Other Pets — gregwatson @ 9:05 am

By Jeff Clare

Since the first time one of our pre-historic ancestors tossed a scrap of meat at a wolf, dogs have been living off the leftovers from their master”s table. While this is a common practice in many parts of the world, it isn”t the best nutrition for the dog. As with humans, dogs also require a well-balanced meal, be that in the form of fresh foods or packaged, store-bought food. Either way, it”s a good idea to familiarize yourself with what constitutes a healthy diet for your dog.

Water is probably the most vital yet often overlooked part of a dog”s diet. A bowl of clean water should be available to a dog at all times, so that it can drink whenever it gets thirsty. If you”ve been feeding your dog foods that are unusually salty, keep a close eye on their water bowl, as your pet will want more water (and need to pee afterwards) once they”re done with the salty food.

Meat provides many things for the naturally-carnivorous dog (though, ideally, only about half their diet consists of meat), including proteins and fats. Though cooking is good for all meats fed to a dog, only pork and rabbit really need to be cooked. Processed and heavily spiced or salted meats, such as beef jerky, salami, or pork rinds, aren”t as easy on a dog”s digestive system as they are on a human”s digestive system.

Dogs will also gladly eat eggs and fish, though a few words must be said about both first. Fish should be thoroughly deboned, lest a stray fish rib pierce a dog”s windpipe, and it should always be cooked. Dogs love eggs, and they don”t know the difference between brown eggs and blood spots and ordinary eggs, so you can save some money by buying cheaper eggs.

Grains are another good food for a dog, especially since grains offer all the carbohydrates they might need. Breads, rice, and cereals are all good grains, though all grains should be cooked before you feed them to a dog. However, as important as grains are, they shouldn”t be more than half of a dog”s diet.

Vegetables are a perfectly fine addition to a dog”s diet, though foods like peas and beans should be avoided. Carrots, lettuce, celery, potatoes, and potato skins are fine for a dog to eat. Cooking vegetables is purely optional, though the less time spent cooking the better for your dog, at least in terms of nutrition.

Cheese and dairy products are another good bet, as they provide a healthy amount of proteins and a larger dose of calcium for older dogs. However, not all dogs will appreciate cheese, so know if your dog in particular enjoys it. Dogs can also consume cow”s milk in their diet, though newborn pups shouldn”t drink cows milk. Further, too much milk in a dog”s diet (save for newborn pups), will leave them with a case of diarrhea.

Dogs can become fat and out of shape or undernourished just like their owners. When deciding how much food to give your dog, the general formula is an ounce of food for every pound of the dog”s weight. Another factor to take into consideration would be how active your dog is. If he”s working herding cattle or sheep all day, as opposed to lounging around a penthouse apartment with not much to do, you will have to adjust the amounts of food appropriately.

Saltwater And Freshwater Aquariums – What You Need To Know

Filed under: Saltwater Aquariums — gregwatson @ 12:17 am

By Low Jeremy

Having a saltwater aquarium can be fun and rewarding or can be upsetting if a person lacks knowledge on the proper and right ways of taking care of fish especially in the saltwater aquarium.

Setting up one requires some equipment to be used for the success of your saltwater aquarium. Filters and air pump are some of the most important facilities. Some decorations can be added such as sand and gravels, which sometimes varies in different colors. You can also include plastic or real plants, castle or miniatures ship and other fancy decorations in the aquarium, but just be very careful that it won”t clutter inside. Light is also essential in saltwater aquarium for the enhancement of the color of the aquarium and especially the fishes survival.

Saltwater aquarium requires three types of filtration. One is the Biological filtration, which involves the removal of the bacteria, which is often created by the fish on its activities, and processes that it undergoes inside the tank. Second, the chemical filtration that is more on the removing of the discoloration and chemicals on the water that harms the fish inside the tank. Third, is the mechanical filtration, which deals more with the removal of the visible materials floating on the aquarium such as uneaten fish foods, wastes of the fishes and other squanders floating or at the bottom of the saltwater aquarium, and this job is commonly done by the net.

There are many considerations regarding the proper ways in keeping the fish alive in a saltwater aquarium, unlike freshwater aquariums; saltwater aquarium is more difficult to set up. One very good example is mixing saltwater. We must remember that water evaporates while the salt is left, which means that the salinity of the water on the tank always varies, which can cause harm especially on the fishes inside the aquarium. A hydrometer may help you track the salinity of the water and add some salt to get the right salinity content of the water.

Beginners can set up their saltwater aquarium depending on what they like. You can just put fish only in the aquarium, or fish with full reef ambience, or whatever design you want, as long as it you make sure that the fish inside the aquarium would be able to survive.

Experienced aquarists and experts say that we must always find the perfect place for the aquarium in the house. If the location of your saltwater aquarium is always struck by sunlight, it may result to changes on the temperature of the water on the tank and would produce more algae due to the sun and its UV rays, which may harm your fish inside the aquarium.

Some people find taking care of fishes as a pet difficult. The reason behind this maybe is that they lack familiarity or they were not given the right information on the proper ways on taking care of the aquarium as well as the fishes inside, but the truth is, it is not that much difficult at all.
There are several steps to be considered in order to become successful on taking care of freshwater fishes.

First step is to have all the equipments to be used on the aquarium or fish tank. One is the filtration equipment, which is responsible for keeping and maintaining the cleanliness and freshness of the water on the tank and you need an air pump to keep the water on the tank aerated and to produce oxygen for the fish or plants inside the tank.

Decorations such as gravel, sand, and plants that can be plastic or real ones, depending on your choice, are great ideas as well. There are also some decorations nowadays made of plastic such as a fortress, vessel, shells and other fancy garlands and some aquarium backgrounds, which are commonly underwater views. Lights also give a very desirable effect on the enhancement of color in the aquarium and gives real plants inside chlorophyll for them to grow. However, beware of putting different decorations inside the tank because it may just pollute the water or just muddle the water inside. Always remember that fishes needs space for them to swim.

There must also be a cover on the aquarium to protect dust or other materials going into the tank. A stand for the aquarium also plays a vital role in keeping the balance of the tank. Other cleaning materials is also important such as a net, chlorine remover, heater for keeping the right temperature of the water and most importantly, fish food.

Some of the best advices is to be careful in feeding the fish because over feeding of fish may result to harm. There are also some people who put too many fishes on their aquarium, do not forget that some fish fights and it might cause inadequate supply of oxygen for the fish and real plants inside the tank if there are too many fishes on the tank.

Why You Should Adopt A Dog

Filed under: Other Pets — gregwatson @ 4:14 pm

By Kadence Buchanan

Dog adoption is made easy through the countless animal welfare organizations and animal shelters existing in every city across the United States. With literally thousands of adoptable dogs listed, a prospective dog owner can select to adopt a dog that needs a wonderful family to go to and be loved. In fact, when you search through these shelters and find a puppy, you are doing a great service to the community and to the local dog rescue or animal shelter that you went for your dog, cat, kitten, or puppy adoption. Thus, you should not hesitate! You should go today to your local area”s shelter facilities and practically support dog and puppy adoption. But before you exit such a life-saving premise, you should first consider some important factors that will shape your decision.

In fact, you are interested in getting a dog from a shelter you can increase your chances of completing a successful adoption if you make some observations and you are not afraid to ask the shelter”s personnel some necessary questions. Begin by visiting the shelter several times and watch the interaction of the staff members with the animals. Pay attention to how they treat, clean and behave to them and if possible keep notes of their attitude towards the dogs in general and the one you are considering of adopting in specific.

A buyer who chooses to adopt a shelter animal instead of buying a puppy should be just as careful in his choice and as selective of a place to adopt as the puppy buyer should be in his choice of a breed and a puppy. This is mainly due to diseases and lack of proper care. Although dogs are vaccinated against common canine diseases when they enter a shelter, they do not always receive immediately the appropriate vaccinations, especially if they have been already exposed to a disease while roaming the streets. In addition, if the shelter keeps each dog in different compartments, but a chain type of fence separates them from each other-meaning that their nose can be in direct contact-then illness are possible to be transferred from one dog to another. Furthermore, if their feces are not picked up regularly and their cells are not cleaned properly, worms and other feces-spread diseases are possible. Thus, ask the shelter”s veterinarian to perform a thorough background physical check on the dog you have set your eyes on and take proof of their vaccination before exiting the shelter or clinic.

Finally, you should be aware that owning a dog is a big responsibility. Apart from their need to be fed regularly depending on their size and breed, dogs have to be taken outdoors, and they often require medical care. Although it is a disaster that many people fail to recognize these and other issues beforehand, you should not decide to adopt a dog based on an impulse. It has to be a well-thought decision that takes under consideration how much time you have available everyday, what is your current lifestyle, and which are your living accommodations. Thinking beforehand where the dog shall live once it enters your house premises is as important as teaching your kids not to be afraid of the hairy new family addition-some children might even get jealous or afraid of a new dog. Plan ahead, research extensively and be well-prepared in order to enjoy for many years to come the amazing company and unique companionship a dog can offer to everyone in your family.

The Toxoplasmosis Threat

Filed under: Other Pets — gregwatson @ 4:07 pm

By Kadence Buchanan

Since I was little I remember when friends of the family visited our house to advice me not to kiss my cat or touch her and then put my fingers in my mouth. The danger was called toxoplasmosis and although I was particularly young to understand what it was or why it was so serious, I felt compelled to touch my cat and then wash my hands at least before dinner.

Toxoplasmosis is a parasitic disease caused by the protozoan “Toxoplasma gondii.” Animals are infected by this single-celled organism by eating infected meat and humans are in danger when they come in contact with the feces of infected animals, usually cats, or by transmission from a mother to her fetus. But the most common means of transmission to humans is raw or undercooked meat. Yet, the illness is usually minor and self-limiting. Treatments can reduce symptoms and after the first weeks of infection, the parasite rarely causes any problems in otherwise healthy adults.

According to researchers, toxoplasmosis is found all over the world and infects about 30 percent of feline population-cats are primary carriers of the disease and usually contract it from eating birds, mice and other small animals or through consuming scraps of uncooked meat-and 50 percent of the human population. Although in the adult community, the parasite rarely causes any signs or symptoms-apart from a flu-like minor ones-because the immune system is usually strong enough to control the organism, those with weakened immune systems, such those who are affected by HIV, may become seriously ill.

Experts explain that although the symptoms might be nothing more that swollen lymph glands and muscle aches and pains that can last a few weeks, the real danger is for fetuses whose mothers carry the parasite. Due to their immature immune systems, unborn children can develop brain damage or blindness from the disease and thus women, who wish to carry a baby, have to be tested with a simple blood test called a titer, in order to check if they carry the parasite or its antibodies before becoming pregnant. If her organism has not developed the necessary antibodies, then she has to go under the necessary treatment prior to pregnancy and of course take precautions to avoid coming in contact with the disease while she is going to be pregnant.

But regardless if you are planning to become pregnant or are just wondering whether or not you are carrying the parasite, there are many things that can be done to avoid this disease. Always handle raw meat while wearing gloves and all the surfaces that come in contact with the raw meat have to be disinfected directed afterwards. In addition, any meat that is going to be consumed has to be cooked thoroughly until it is not pink anymore. Because cats are the primary hosts of this parasite, women should avoid cleaning their feces barehanded and people of all ages should always remember to wash their hands after touching their cat”s litter box.

After all, the advice I was given was totally true and useful. Washing hands before dinner as well as prior and after any cooking process is still one of my main concerns. If you are concerned whether you have been infected at some point and you now carry the antibodies or if the parasite is still alive in you, then you should go ahead and perform the titer test to check your current situation. Particularly if you are pregnant or if your immune system is not as strong as you would like it to be, call your doctor and find out what kind of treatment you can use in order to get rid of this disease as quickly as possible.

Your Child Brought Home a Dog

Filed under: Other Pets — gregwatson @ 4:05 pm

By Kadence Buchanan

Although growing up you were fortunate to have a pet friend, its loss did make you suffer greatly and you decided not to risk exposing your kids to the same experience of them having to cope one day with the loss of their animal friend. But, life always finds a way to surprise you when you least expect it and one evening your son or daughter might enter the house accompanied by a stray dog. You will probably think that this is a very bad idea, but your son”s eyes will beg you to reconsider and allow his new friend to stay “Please, just for a few days; until we find someone who wants to adopt it.” Now you know how that story will go. The days will pass and your new visitor will still be in your house, messing around with your shoes and licking his plate all the way from the kitchen floor to the living-room carpet creating a mess. But when he will put his head on your lap for you to touch it on the head, you will catch yourself smiling and thinking that this is not a bad idea after all. Well, it is certainly not.

Researchers have found evidence suggesting that kids who grow up having a pet companion learn a lot from this relationship. The connection formed is not only beneficial to the animal, but also to the child. Kids that have pets become responsible sooner and behave proactively. These are just two of the positive outcomes your child will experience from your decision to allow a “stranger” to enter your house. The lessons a child will learn from being close to an animal can have a tremendous effect to its personality and behavior; today and in the future. Having to take the dog out for a walk, visiting the veterinarian”s office every six months, washing the dog or playing with it, will not only be some of your kid”s future cherished memories, but also some rather life-changing experiences.

Only good can come out from your child learning to be respectful and affectionate to an animal. By living with a dog, your child will for the first time in his or her life learn what it feels like to take care of another living-soul. Moreover, the happiness and comfort such a relationship will bring to your kid”s life cannot be easily ignored or compared with anything else he or she will later decide to experience. Respecting someone else”s needs and thinking of their well-being are extremely important lessons for the formation of your child”s future character and you will be later thanked for being tolerant and supportive.

Do not be intimidated from the fact that your child will consider his or her new pet friend just like he or she does with a new toy; fun and wonderful at the beginning, annoying and boring later. This is actually your chance to teach your child what it means to love unconditionally and to protect one”s life. From the trips to the nearby park to your family”s summer vacations, your child will have a first-hand experience on how rewarding and fulfilling it can be to cultivate such an intimate relationship and what it entails to keep it flourishing and rewarding.

Finally, the risk of loosing the dog, or the reality that it will one day die, cannot be underestimated. It is true that kids become psychologically attached to their pets, but so do adults. There is no easy way to say goodbye to a beloved companion, but no bigger lesson exists there in life. Understanding what death is, learning to accept it, and finding ways to cope with it, are not processes one has to go through when he or she is an adult. Perhaps then it will be too difficult for your child to become conscious of the loss.

Pets can be the most fulfilling experience a kid can have and it is always time to open your door and your soul to that stray dog he or she will bring in. Life gives no guarantees that happiness and bliss will last forever. Nevertheless, your kid will become a better individual if he or she is given a chance to experience life through the eyes of a dog.

Your Cat Goes Missing

Filed under: Other Pets — gregwatson @ 3:54 pm

By Kadence Buchanan

According to the most recent Synovate pet survey (Sept. 2005), conducted in nine markets across the globe, the UK and the US were shown to be the two absolute leaders in pet ownership. Specifically, three-quarters (75%) of the UK respondents were pet owners. Since cats are low maintenance, independent, and affectionate, they fit in well with urban working lifestyles and have become the favorite pet for million of pet-owners over the last 30 years. But although cat-owners are familiar with the sight of a cat wondering the city streets early in the morning and then returning to its owner”s residence to rest and eat, statistics reveal that cats are lost, stolen or abandoned and need owners who are caring and also willing to devote time to monitor their “free” lifestyles.

Thus, in order to minimize the chances of you ever having to file a missing cat report and to provide to all cat-lovers out there a short list of the things one should know and do before his or her independent companion decides to migrate and explore the unknown, we have collected the following tips you should carefully read, keeping in mind that you should not get discouraged or panic if your cat actually disappears. By following our advice and keeping yourself organized and prepared at all times, the chances are that you will be reunited with your lost friend again soon.

- Keep an action checklist in a visible location, along with the current phone numbers of emergency contacts, like individuals and organizations you will need to call in case of emergency.

- Always remember to have a rubber (elastic) collar placed around your cat”s neck portraying an identification tag (ID) that will display the cat”s name and your current home and/or cell phone number.

- Over the years, there has been evidence that cats are stolen for laboratory use, for the fur-trade, or are killed by malicious, sick individuals. Moreover, pedigree cats may be stolen to serve an order. Thus, prior to having to deal with any unfortunate event, register your cat to the available services of your area. In most cases registration can be completed online and you will save precious time if something actually happens. Then, have the attached tag display its registration number. You can find it again sooner by using the number on the tag. It can be its ticket home.

- For real security, consider putting a microchip implant to your cat or tattooing it and register the chip”s number with one of the registries in your area.

- Ensure you have recent and reliable color photos of your cat and be sure you note unique markings or characteristics, such as scars. You have to take shots of both sides of your cat”s body, as well as its face (portrait).

- Write and frequently update a short, simple and clear description of your cat and have it stored in your computer”s memory -along with the recently taken photographs- in order to create posters and flyers if your cat gets lost / stolen.

- Search and save the webpages of your local animal control authorities and “lost and found” online registries for immediate retrieval.

- Make sure you have the local pet authorities” phone numbers on your “emergency contact list” and check them frequently for any updates. Also, keep a copy of a recent local street map along with this emergency contact list. In case you need to coordinate a search unit this map will be the first thing you will need to distribute.

- Create a “lost kit” in case your cat should ever run away. The copies of its current photographs, some pre-made flyers, a flashlight, the phone numbers of animal control centers, the police, the vet, a couple of its favorite items in order to be placed outdoors and delicious canned food can be included in this kit. When you are on vacation and hire an animal sitter, this kit will contain everything needed if your cat is lost while in someone else”s care.

- Avoid letting your cat roam free if you cannot rely on his/her recall. You have to keep in mind that cats are not eager to appear when you call their name. We recommend you to keep your cat always indoors unless it is adequately trained.

- Do not leave your cat unattended in the car/van and always transport your cat in a safe carrier suitable for cats.

- Be wary of strangers expressing an interest in your cat. Watch out for suspicious characters. Your cat is your responsibility. Remember not to leave your cat with friendly strangers.

- Have in mind that a spayed or neutered cat is less likely to wander off. Although this process may not be something you want to perform, it might be one of the things that can keep your cat safe.

- Make sure that your companion is up to date on his/her vaccinations. Animals able to run free or staying at a shelter are at higher risks of being exposed to diseases. See your veterinarian about the recommended vaccines for your cat.

Tips for Keeping Pets

Filed under: Other Pets — gregwatson @ 3:52 pm

By Jonathon Hardcastle

Animals unlike humans cannot express their feelings and they cannot go on making demands and tell their owners when they need food. They are animals. Pet keepers bring home fish, cats, dogs, rabbits, hamsters and birds home all the time eagerly but sadly, they fail to take proper care of their pets because of which their animals die. If pets can not speak out, pet keepers themselves should be humane enough to understand their pets heartily and give them their rights.

Some basic and simple tips for pet keepers can ensure a healthy and loving relation between themselves and their pets. As far as dogs are concerned it is advisable to keep it in a proper dog house which should be comfortable and cozy enough for it to reside in. Whenever you take out your dog for a walk make sure you leash it. They are playful animals, they love to jump and mingle with other animals and chase things. So avoid any bad circumstances it is always better to play it safe. Cats are well mannered and they are less messy than dogs. However they too need proper care. Dogs and cats should be bathed regularly and their utensils cleaned on daily bases. If your dog or cat ever urinate or excrete in your lounge, you should never leave it unclean. It is highly unhygienic for animals and pet keepers both.

The animals that you keep in cages need a little more attention. They are enslaved so it is better to make them at least feel free. Birds or rabbits should never be kept in small cages. They should be big enough so that your birds can easily flutter their wings and fly about. It should be big enough so that your rabbit can run about and hide when it wants to hide. Animals kept at home should provide them with a sense of being in their natural habitats. This way they feel free and they live happily. Their cages, their beddings should be cleansed thoroughly and regularly.

Animals should be vaccinated whenever they need to be. They should be taken for regular medical checkups so that they stay health and energetic. Animals too should be kept in a secured area and never be left out on their own. Pets are unlike the stray animals; they are vulnerable and require special attention. So pet keepers should make sure they take care of their pets the way they should be kept. They can always keep themselves updated through internet and magazines to acknowledge and fulfill their pet”s needs.
